2013 Hyundai Equus by Hermes Special Edition Limo
Though recently Hyundai had launched the 2014 edition of the Equus in New York, designer brand Hermes has joined hands with the Korean car brand to create the 2013 Hyundai Equus limited edition. Based on the 2012 line, the interiors of the limousine have been given a luxurious revamp by the French brand, along with a few tweaks to the exteriors as well. With 2 years since the launch of the car, Hermes and Hyundai have been jointly working on this special edition project, which will see the car with new cabin styling apart from a longer wheelbase design and some cosmetic changes to the body of the Equus. 20 new handcrafted fixtures created by Hermes designers, have been given an unique single tone color coordination via the specific leather grades chosen by these designers. Reportedly, the leather used here is the same as found in some of best Hermes handbags, especially the crocodile leather.
Since the Hyundai Equus by Hermes is pegged as a custom made collector’s item not for sale, the interiors have never the less been decked up even more than what was seen in the 2012 edition. This is the reason why the French brand’s designers got down to creating 20 special components for the interior, all done up in leather which would otherwise be seen on Hermes’ best handbags. The challenge was also, to find the exact same monotone shaded leather in various grades, which gives a very luxurious and custom-made touch to the interior.
Some of the new components seen here include the folding table with 4 cup holders, water bottle compartment, and also a storage space for a large blanket. The inspiration for this new design, has been the premium aircraft interiors which concentrate on decking up the interiors for the extra comfort of guests.
The sad part of the news however, is that there will only be 3 such unique Hyundai Equuses made, but none of them would be open for sale in the market. The aim of doing such an exercise as the company reveals, has been to give the Hyundai brand a premium retouch by associating with the French designer house.
Hyundai has been doing the rounds with some other premium creations as well. One of the favorites we noticed was the Hyundai Genesis, which was also given a special edition run a few years ago. That time the association was with Prada, where jointly 1,200 custom made editions were sold. Too bad the Equus hasnt met the similar edition this time around, but for the discerning car collector, this one sure will get noticed and replicated a bit differently.
