The 2014 Mercedes-Benz is about revealing a new fold of luxury, and catering to every kind of whim and fancy of those who can buy such a car. We had unveiled the interiors of the 2014 S-Class, and here is more to that beauty of an automobile. Unlike previously, the 2014 edition made it’s first public appearance through images on it’s brochure, most of which you would now find here. The car itself, will be physically unveiled at the Airbus A380 Delivery Centre in Hamburg, Germany which will have a gathering of automobile geeks and media from across the world. Along with luxurious fittings of bespoken leather varieties, technology will a major hotspot in the new 2014 S-Class, where the central 12.3-inch TFT touch screen control panel will be the focus point of functionality in the luxury limousine.
Mercedes has generally made vehicles which would pamper the passengers riding them. The S-Class has entertainment and technology features at one place, and within the finger’s reach, almost. The rear seat passengers will have access to touchscreens, from which they can consume a variety of multimedia content, apart from accessing the internet. The special lighting which one notices in the car, including the headlamps, have no bulbs in them! The lighting fixtures throughout, are nothing but specially designed LED lights, which run low on power consumption but are equally, if not more effective than the traditional bulbs.
If the Mercedes S-Class is taken for longer journeys, the pampering will be extend to massaging facilities on board, which shall take care of the tiredness one experiences over longer distance journeys. Since each of us would have a different seating posture, height and angle included, the electronically controls fixtures will flex themselves to perfectly suitable positions. After all, it’s about pampering along with comfortable riding!
What Mercedes has also brought about in this edition of the S-Class luxury sedan, is the Drive Kit Plus system which will bringing in the features of a smartphone on to the infotainment system of the car. The users can categorize each application under different sections of social, media, and places for easy access. The interface can then controlled via the COMAND controller, or the voice controlled system which moves between functions based on the voice based commands of the user. The Drive Kit Plus will now be a standard feature amongst all Mercedes-Benz models in the near future. Recently this system was showcased at the Google I/O where the functionality of the Google Place API was highlighted. They have added 4 new features including the faster search on the go, preview destinations, town hotspot guide, and live traffic conditions so that journey planning can become easier.
Mercedes-Benz has spoken of it’s plans of bringing in Long Wheel Base and Shorter Wheel versions of the car. For now, however, the longer edition will be restricted to American roads only. There will be 3 models in the S-series which will be showcased at the Airbus A380 center in Hamburg. The S550, the flagship of the series will be fitted with a 4.7-liter V8 engine which will be dishing out 449 HP of power.
The S350 Bluetec will be getting a 3.0-liter V6 engine which will be dishing out 258 HP of power. There will also be a hybrid model, seen as the S400 which is going to be fitted with a 302 HP 3.5-liter V6 engine combined with an electric motor drive combination. This should tick with the ecologically conscious crowd of luxury automobile riders. How they all turn out in the end, will be known at the end of the 15th May Show in Hamburg.
