39 year old Renzi becomes Italy’s youngest Prime Minister
Italian center-left leader Matteo Renzi took office very recently as the country's youngest Prime Minister. This happened as a result of his party’s forcing out his predecessor Enrico Letta over the issue of the very slow pace of ongoing economic reforms which were struggling to pull the Italian economy out of a prolonged recession. Letta offered his resignation to make way for Renzi, all of just 39 years of age. The new premier has promised several bold economic reform measures along with a strong and united government. Interesting the young Prime minister has inducted a very low profile list of ministers in his cabinet which includes an interesting combination of politicians and technocrats. It has been widely reported in the Italian media that ensuring the success of his recent decisions will be completely Renzi’s responsibility. The 16 member cabinet has become one of the youngest ministries in the countries’ history with an average age of less than 50 years. It is also incidentally the smallest ministry in recent Italian political history. Another interesting fact about this youthful cabinet is the fact that almost half of its members are comprised of women. All these measures help to confirm Mr. Renzi's sound reputation and reinforce his promise of a fresh beginning. Although Renzi’s reputation is at stake since he faces a huge challenge with the decaying Italian economy which is the third largest in the euro zone. The country has really been struggling hard from its worst downfall since World World Two and has been weighed down by the double whammy of a massive 2 trillion Euro public debt along with an industrial base which was not at all successful over the course of the past decade. As a result of this weak industrial base several Italian companies are out of business and millions of people find themselves out of work.
