Abramovich buys the world’s largest expedition yacht while longing for “Eclipse
Rich boys love their toys. Even though the world is barely out of a global economic meltdown, the world’s billionaires continue spending without count and the Russian oil tycoon, Roman Abramovich tops the list. Though the Russian oligarch is still awaiting the delivery of Eclipse, the world’s largest private yacht, which is scheduled for 2010 itself, he has recently taken delivery of another motor yacht Luna, dubbed as the world’s largest expedition yacht and the 19th largest private yacht in the world, on Saturday April 10, 2010. Launched last October by Lloyd Werft and Stahlbau Nord Shipyards, the 115m (377ft) motor yacht Luna is extremely luxurious featuring two helicopter pads, large, open aft deck with covered swimming pool and sunbathing areas, a dedicated open luxury leisure area featuring a beach club leading down to the swim platform.
The expedition yacht allows to cover greater distances without having to stop or refuel and is designed to sail smoothly even in difficult weather conditions. Abramovich traveled by private jet to Kjevik Airport, where he was transferred to a helicopter with his family to the landing pads of M/Y Luna.
Abramovich is currently the third richest man in Russia and the 50th richest man in the world according to the 2010 Forbes list, one position up as compared to the #51 spot on the prestigious Forbes World’s Billionaires 2009 list.
