ARMIN STROM Gravity is the first watch to feature an automatic winding mechanism
The elements of nature certainly seem to have an appeal amongst the haute horologie world, as an area of desire. This is perhaps the inspiration behind, the Armin Strom Gravity series, which has made the first watch series featuring an automatic winding mechanism for recharging it’s movement. Available in 4 different forms of the earthen elements of fire, air, water, and earth, the Gravity series will have watch geeks studying deep into the AMR13 movement, that uses gravity to power the timepiece’s functions. The lever on the AMR13 had been crafted out of 18ct white gold, which has the seconds pinion and balance wheel on the same axis. Despite the innovation as an engine, the Gravity Series makes it clear that Armin Storm is one brand, that is here to change the way skeletonizing in watches is seen from now on.
The Armin Storm Gravity Air Watch comes with a 43.40mm wide titanium casing with sapphire crystal covering, which has been given an anti-reflective treatment. The interior mechanism is powered by the AMR13 mechanism which works with the gravitational force of the earth, to produce energy for the functionalities inside. The automatic movement has a 5 day power reserve, and is made up of 171 total components, with 32 of them being jewels. The beat rate stands at 18,000 vibrations per hour, and in entirety can bear water up to 50 meters deep. The buckle is a titanium clasp, where the strapping in original white colored alligator horn-back leather. One will be able to see only 100 pieces of this watch.
The Gravity Earth is armed with similar configurations as the earth. However, the aesthetics have been changed with the black PVD coated stainless steel casing, with anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Even the dial ring is seen with black appliques, with mirror polished hands. The strapping has been matched with a black horn-back alligator leather strap, and buckle is the similar black PVD Ardillion. This too is limited to 100 pieces for sale.
The Gravity Water watch has been given the 43.40mm wide casing, but in stainless steel with the sapphire crystal anti-reflective covering on both faces. The strapping is a blue horn-back alligator leather with ardillon buckle, and one can also choose one with a double fold clasp instead of the usual one.
The Armin Storm Gravity Fire watch gets crafted with an 18k rose gold casing with the similar anti-reflective sapphire crystal coating. The dial ring is an aesthetic contrast with black founded appliques. To match the theme of fire, the strapping is dark brown hornback alligator leather with the 18k rose gold clasp. One could also pick the double fold clasping option if the conventional design doesn’t suit well. Like all the others in the series, there are the common functions of hours, minutes, and small seconds in these time pieces. Since style seems to be the biggest factor of choosing, the one watch collector in awe of the nature’s basic elements will certainly be pleased with what they buy. The ones who attended Baselworld 2013 certainly did!
