Bartender’s dream of mixing the world’s most expensive cocktail shattered
At London’s highly exclusive Playboy Club under the watch of Guinness World Records judges, an expensive piece of history and cocktail-maestro Salvatore Calabrese’s dream of mixing the world’s most expensive cocktail gets shattered after its key ingredient, a historic cognac worth of $77,480 gets accidentally smashed on floor. One of the world’s leading bartender, Salvatore Calabrese’s record-breaking attempt to mix the ‘Old and Wise’ cocktail, which was to be priced at $7,830 a glass, was dashed after an affluent customer who already ordered two glasses of the vintage 1788 Clos de Griffier Vieux generously asked to look at this historic bottle.
As this wealthy businessman and his companion finished their expensive drinks and rose from the table, the 234-years old historic bottle was reportedly sent flying, thus spilling the brandy across the Playboy Club’s floor.
Salvatore Calabrese stated this unfortunate happening as, “We all just froze, then it sunk in. I’ve been heartbroken. Not because of the value of the bottle, but because it is a piece of history that has been lost.” This cognac expert, whose collection of antique spirits valued at $1.5 million, forgave his friend who is regular at club and is responsible for shattering the bottle. Further, the cognac bottle was also not insured as it had been previously opened.
Taking this matter positively, Salvatore Calabrese said that accidents happen and he regrets to have left the bottle on bottle. But, then the fellow connoisseur truly wanted to appreciate what he was drinking.
Interestingly, Mr. Calabrese’s rare and antique spirits are kept under lock abd key in display cabinet in the bar. And, the neck and base of the shattered cognac bottle are now on display alongside.
And for now, bartender Salvatore’s dream of mixing the world’s most expensive cocktail is on hold as he’s seriously scout for the considerable replacement.
