Become an emperor, buy your own Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is one of the most awe-inspiring man-made monuments ever built in the history of mankind. However, thinking of owning one such breathtaking monument would be even far from most people’s dreams, but owners of Villa Taj in Illinois provide this rare opportunity to seize this overwhelming construction with Spanish, Indian, Egyptian and Moroccan flair. The 30,000-square-foot home that took five years and an estimated $18 million to build has a 20-car garage, 160 tons of imported Jerusalem limestone, 30,000 square feet of interior space and 15,000 square feet of exterior terraces, 30-foot high ceilings, nine fireplaces and six master bedroom suites. Apart from an elevator there’s marble stairs leading to a mammoth Jacuzzi tub and of course, an exterior that slightly resembles the Taj Mahal. Previously on the market for $25 million, the current bid is reported to start from $6.265 million. Well, it may be hard to match the proud passion of an emperor’s love wrought in living stone, but it isn’t about owning a Taj Mahal, rather its namesake.
