BMW 2002 Turbo

The BMW 2002 Turbo in the only road-going-petrol-engine-turbo car to be ever built in Germany. The BMW 2002 remains just a school book example today owing to its seriously tricky handling that resulted due to severe turbo lag. This lag was most prominent during gear change as the power significantly dropped. Around 1672 cars were manufactured between 1972-1973 in either polaris silver or chamonix white paint at a moderate price of $ 6,600. The cars is based on BMW's 2002 Tii platform and served as the direct forerunner of theBMW 3 series. Apart from the conventional model, the 2002 Turbo was also offered in a very rare 2002 Ti(Touring Internationale) and a three-door 2002, the Touring. However, the 2002 Turbo did possess an aggressive appearance and a classic spirit.

Interior of the 2002 Turbo is also sparsely equipped like that of the interior. It has a pair of adjustable black leatherette sports-type bucket seats with head-rests, three spoke steering wheel, a turbo boost gauge with analog clock in a central pod, instruments of the main cluster has a red surround. Options were also offered with the interior such as rear seat belts, rear window defroster, lockable glove box, lockable gas cap, velour floor mats and a radio with cassette player. Door panels include broad panels, upholstery skin with chrome strips. The original door panel comes in only three colors - black, blue and brown.

Exterior features of the Turbo 2002 were quite unique and distinct. The wheel arches were widened wit tracked on, deep chin black rubber spoiler, body color front spoiler, riveted flender flares, some were decorated with Motorsport stripes in front spoiler and sides. Some basic optional features were also offered such as manual/power sunroof, front-rear fog light, headlight washer/wipers, tinted glass/laminated glass, passenger-side exterior mirror, etc. The 70 L fuel tank is placed in the trunk floor which is also large enough to accommodate a spare tyre. All the 2002 Turbo were fitted with 185/70 VR13 with inner type and metal screw-in valve 40G DIN 7771 tyres. Wheel were optional with 5.5 * 13 inch steel wheels with dark grey centre (standard) and 6 * 13 inch disc-type alloy wheel.
