When it comes to creating cult sculptures and scale models, American artist Jeff Koons holds quite a prominent status in the arena. It's quite the obvious circumstance, if one takes a look at his previous work such as the Pink Panther sculpture, and the rather realistic Blue Diamond which went on sale for $12 million at an auction by Christie’s. His latest is this multi colored 1:18 scale model of the BMW M3 GT2 car, which almost brings to life this racing coupe from the Bavarian car maker.
Before going ahead with this scale model as a part of his ‘Art Car’ project, Jeff Koons ensured that BMW gives him a go ahead. Hence, he held a meeting with the head of design at BMW, Mr. Adrian van Hooydonk on his new idea. After exchange of ideas between the 2 creative brains, there was a final go ahead, which resulted in this miniature version of the car, which by itself, is as realistic as you get them to be. The craftsmanship has ensured the aerodynamics haven’t been compromised upon either. Since the real version is to be unveiled at the upcoming Le Mans race, every detail including the air inlets and vents have been taken into consideration.
For those interested, the model will be available from BMW for a price tag of $224 a piece. It would include the acrylic base, and the transparent top of the car, giving a view of what’s inside the vehicle. This brings a flash of memory when we covered the BMW case mod, which was a model version of a BMW racer. For fans of the car brand, these two scale models are certainly worth the comparison, especially on lines of the detail they provide.
