13-year-old British schoolboy is the youngest to build an N-Reactor
Jamie Edwards, a British school going boy all of just 13 years old, has taken the science world by storm by becoming the youngest person in the globe to build a nuclear fusion reactor. According to reports, the British teenager started to build the reactor from scratch and in the process successfully claimed the world record from another American teenager Taylor Wilson who was all of 14 years of age when he became the youngest fusioneer in the world in the year 2008. However Jamie who started to build the reactor in October last year in his school's vacant science laboratory successfully completed the task within five months of starting the herculean activity. He managed to make a couple of atoms smash together to create helium in a typical nuclear fusion reaction. The teenager who presently attends Penwortham Priory Academy situated near Preston has admitted that he always had a fascination for science subjects like radiation and reportedly used to do his older brother's science project. Edwards further revealed that he was searching in the internet for radiation related topics or other aspects of nuclear energy when he suddenly stumbled across Taylor Wilson’s famous feat. Jamie then set off trying to create the nuclear fusion reactor along with his friend George Barker who helped him with the administrative aspects and contacted several physicists. But initially the duo found the raising the funds needed for the activity quite a difficult ask. Luckily, Jamie’s head teacher Jim Hourigan decided to come to his rescue and helped him out by providing the necessary funds. It helped Jamie to only concentrate on his work. The fusion reaction took place before an audience of experts in the controlled environment in his school who confirmed its authenticity.
