Chinese wealthy loves flashy cars: Beijing Auto Show has SUV’s and special edition cars galore
China is on the verge of becoming the world’s leading market for just about everything that is over-the-top expensive, as affluent Chinese are indulging in high-end products, including flashy cars. The luxury car manufacturers are holding no bars to customize special edition cars to appeal to the Chinese super rich; from gas-guzzling SUV’s, to bespoke coupe’s – the Chinese wealthy auto lovers seem to prefer as luxurious as it can get. Considering this craze for the high-end cars, the exotic car makers have released special edition cars for the China market, including the Aston Martin Dragon88 and the Ferrari 458 Italia Chinese edition finished with a gold dragon, to appeal to the Chinese buyers. At the 2012 Auto China Show in Beijing, carmakers wowed the visitors with SUV’s and special edition cars that includes the Victoria Beckham Range Rover Evoque edition, Lamborghini Urus Concept SUV and the Bentley’s first SUV concept car, to name a few. The auto show was all about flashy cars and opulence, from special edition cars with bespoke interiors to model wearing diamond studded gown.
Jeep, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini and Range Rover are among many foreign automakers who unveiled their special edition cars, hoping to woo the high-spending Chinese buyers. This year’s Beijing’s Auto Show will be remembered as not just the ‘Year of the Dragon’, but as the year of the SUVs and special edition cars. Further, Asian model Mari Li Yingzhi posing beside a BMW car, wearing a diamond gown was one of the other notable highlights of the Beijing’s Auto China 2012 show.

Wrangler Dragon Design Concept
At the auto show, Jeep unveiled its Wrangler Dragon Design Concept, featuring a dragon motif both on the inside and outside along with black paint, and bronze-gold accents in the grilles, headlights and alloy wheels. Meant to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, this Wrangler Dragon Concept features 18-inches, five spoke wheels wrapped in 35-inch big off-road tires.
Further, the black, bronze, and gold are the dominant colors on the interior, and the seat bolsters and seat side features the bronze-gold trim along with dragon tattoo on the headrests. On the technical front, the Wrangler Dragon Design Concept gets its power from the standard 3.6 liter Pentastar V-6 engine that also powers the North American Wrangler.
Victoria Beckham edition Range Rover Evoque
At the autos show, the Spice girl turned fashion designer, Victoria Beckham reveled her design debut for Range Rover. She was appointed creative design executive at Range Rover in 2010, and was inspired by her footballer husband David Beckham, in creating the Range Rover Evoque Special Edition.
The car chairs are finished with bold, baseball-like stitching details, a special reference chosen by Victoria to her sporting husband. Whereas the luxurious floor mats, exclusively made from mohair were inspired by Victoria Beckham’s father’s Rolls-Royce. In addition, this special edition car boasts rose-gold plated luxurious interior accents along with hand-sewn leather wallet for the discerning owner’s manual signed by Beckham itself.
However, and all these personal touches don’t come cheap; only 200 units will be produced costing $129,075 each.
Lamborghini Urus Concept SUV
A sporty SUV model, the Lamborghini Urus Concept SUV demonstrates how Lamborghini is completely redefining dynamics and design in the SUV category. The Urus is designed to deliver distinctive driving experience with its ample space, four large seats, variable ground clearance, a versatile luggage compartment and permanent all-wheel drive.The interiors crafted using innovative carbon fiber reflects the sporty image of the luxury brand.
Basically, the Urus is the Lamborghini of SUVs, and it’s described to be the most extreme interpretation of the SUV idea. Powered by 12-cylinder engine along with 114-inch wheelbase, the model delivers outstanding performance with versatility.
