De Grisogono Otturatore timepiece opens new dimensions in horology

When innovations seem to be penetrated every sphere of our life, it’s wasn’t going to a surprise to see a similar clamor amongst the horologists, to create something that would differentiate them from the competition. Though the best of the lot have something or other unique to offer, but what de Grisogono has done with Otturatore, will indeed turn numerous heads towards this unique timepiece. Amongst others, it features a clockwise rotational dial which works at 18 times faster than human eye blink, the acceleration energy requirement of which is stated to more than that of a jet airplane!

Housed in a golden chassis (44mm wide and 50mm tall) of 4 corners, the wrist watch has a shape which is perhaps still not so very common unlike the general oval and rounded versions. Featuring a carved push button on the ride hand side, the watch gets its much needed ‘power’ to perform its multiple functions including the displaying usual hours, minutes, seconds, date, and even moon phases. The hours are minutes are in form of golden markings on the white based dial sides, where as the date and moonphases are indicated in the small windows near the 6 ‘o’clock position. The interesting point in this regard, is the functionality and sensitivity of the push button on the side. A single gentle touch can rotate the dial at 90-degrees, something which won’t even be visible to normal human eye! And this is supposedly the source of the 42-hour power back up of the watch before; the next power shot is needed.

Looking at the technical’s, the vibration rate of the DR 19-89 movement is pegged at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The total number of components inside is 574 in all, whereas 28 of them are precious jewels, and part of the core movement of the watch. The options available for the casing metal include rose and white gold, whereas the dial could be seen in brown, white, black and ruthenium satin finished versions. The strapping is stitched genuine alligator. The case back is sapphire crystal, a commonality in all editions.
