Formed by automobile industry executive John DeLorean in 1975, the DeLorean Motor Company ‘DMC’ is renowned for the one model it produced, the distinctive brushed stainless steel DeLorean DMC-12 sports car featuring the iconic gull-wing doors and rear-engine. Shot to worldwide fame as the central hero in the comedic science fiction adventure film series Back to Future movie trilogy, the DMC-12 was the car ahead of its time when it came out in 1981, and made a huge impression to an entire era. Now, paying tribute to this iconic 1980s legend, the DeLorean automobile, RJ-Romain Jerome has unveiled the DeLorean-DNA watch, in collaboration with the DeLorean Motor Company. This exclusively new DNA of Famous Legends timepieces is the perfect marriage of time and speed, technical virtuosity and the magic of cinema.
Remaining true to the car’s inimitable aesthetic appeal, the chronograph DeLorean-DNA has been crafted entirely out of brushed stainless steel, and utilizes the same materials as the sportscar DMC-12's original bodywork, of which certain elements has been melted together with the bezel's steel.
The timepiece’s dial comes engraved with cross-strut traverses referencing the X-shaped design. Further, the ring at 3 o’clock evokes the car's wheel rim design, while the watch hands are inspired by DMC-12's dashboards. Notably, the small seconds dial features the same look and color as the car’s tail-lights.
And, a medallion engraved with a DeLorean adorns the case-back, along with the watch number, which is just limited to 81, referencing the car’s manufacturing year 1981.
The strap crafted of upholstery leather features anthracite grey stitching which is similar to the interior of the DMC-12.
However, we have earlier seen that the Swiss luxury watchmaker RJ-Romain-Jerome celebrated the Declaration of Independence by introducing the Liberty Enlightening watch, and took us to the crazy round of video games with its limited edition PAC-MAN watches and the limited edition wristwatch with Space Invader design.
