A Daughter of a tailor and a model, fashion designing was in Donna Karan’s blood which is one big reason she has made has made New York uptown dressing her signature. Donna Faske, who would later become fashion mogul Donna Karan, was born in 1948 in Queens, New York.
Donna began her career an assistant designer with Anne Klein in the late 1960s and in 1985 she showcased her first women's clothing collection and launched DKNY (Donna Karan New York) in 1988. She stared the line with the aim to dress women in comfort and to release them from the limits formal wear. Today Karan’s company produces not just women appeal but deals in menswear, jeans, accessories, hosiery, and cosmetics. Sales of her products increased more than five-fold between 1991 and 1995. Although in 2001 she sold her company to French luxury conglomerate LVMH for almost $250 million in cash but she still remains the designer of the brand.
Respected as one of the world’s foremost designers and has recently created world’s most expensive perfume bottle made of gold and adorned with precious stones from all over the world. Donna got married twice and has three children. By 2007 Donna Karan had seven grandchildren.
