The crowd was all excited when the world's biggest commercial airliner Airbus A380 operated by Emirates landed at Manchester Airport in the UK, making it the first regional airport to receive the super jumbo. For this huge plane to land, Manchester Airport has spent more than £10 million on new fire engines, a new aircraft stand and two bridges that connect the plane to the terminal.

The Airbus A380 accommodates 525 people in a three-class configuration or up to 853 people in all economy-class configurations.

When it comes to the on-board amenities, it’s like a high-tech luxury house flying high in the sky. On the upper level of the super jumbo is a champagne bar. The first class cabins are loaded with gizmos, and you have the in-flight entertainment, fine dining and silver service.

The first class passengers can also enjoy on-board showers. The economy class is spacious enough to ensure comfort of the passengers. The A380 is 240ft long, 79ft high and has a 260ft wingspan. Weighing in at 421tonnes, the super jumbo can cruise at 900 kph for 15,000km.

British Airways has already given its order for 12 super-jumbos with the first delivery scheduled for 2013. Virgin Atlantic will also receive the first of its six A380s the same year.
