Carte Blanche gets a sexy Bond style launch in London
The hotly awaited Carte Blanche, the new James Bond book by top American thriller writer Jeffery Deaver, is out now in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, The Netherlands, Russia and Korea. The first copies of the new Bond book, published by Hodder & Stoughton, were launched in a unique and stylish way at St. Pancras International in London. At the high profile event was a luxury car, champagne on tap, Royal Marines Commandos abseiling and a beautiful Bond girl on a vintage motorbike.

Jeffery Deaver arrived at Europe’s longest bar, The Champagne Bar at St. Pancras International, in a special Carte Blanche red Bentley Continental GT. It’s worth taking note that while the world’s best-known fictional secret agent James Bond is seen behind the wheels of Aston Martins and BMWs on the silver screen, his transport of choice in books has been a Bentley.
Stunt rider and model Chesca Miles, who played a Bond girl for the event in black leather attire, escorted him to the bar on a BSA 1966 Spitfire motorbike. During the launch, Deaver said…
I became a Brit for about the eight months it took me to write the book. I did have to learn, for instance, that when we say ‘pissed’ over here (in Britain) it means drunk, it doesn’t mean angry.
Four members of the Royal Marines Display Team abseiled from the roof of St Pancras International, holding copies of the novel Carte Blanche. Lucy Fleming, Ian Fleming’s niece, was present during the launch.
On Saturday, my uncle, Ian Fleming, would be 103 years old. If he had been here today he would have loved the occasion. With his brilliant plot and clever twists, his perfectly horrible villain and his detailed knowledge of the British intelligence Service, Jeffery Deaver brings Bond straight into the heart of modern espionage.
Ian Fleming was the author of the original 14 James Bond books. Jeffery Deaver's new James Bond novel will also be released in France, the Czech Republic, USA , Canada, Israel and Spain over the next month.
