DNA Ancestry Portrait: Personalized artwork celebrates your origin

Nandini Maheshwari / Nov 18 2010

We have earlier told you about the DNA Portraits by DNA11. Now for all those who take pride in their lineage, the company is offering its latest art from life masterpiece, the DNA Ancestry Portrait. DNA Ancestry Portraits begin with mapping your DNA sample to determine your mtDNA haplogroup, essentially your maternal lineage dating back thousands of years to the original homo sapiens in Africa. It then creates a personalized web page that details your family lineage based off of your sample, and finally a portrait is then created using your choice of several color palettes to turn it into an augmented art piece. The DNA Ancestry Portrait premiered at the opening of the WIRED Store in New York. You can even scan the art piece with a smartphone to lead to your unique ancestry web page.

DNA Ancestry Portraits are available for sale in 25 color combinations and three sizes starting at $440 and for those who prefer DNA 11's original DNA Portrait, a DNA Ancestry "barcode" signature can be added to their art piece for only $199. World-renowned designer, Karim Rashid, was the first to encode his maternal ancestry in a DNA 11 Ancestry Portrait, will you be next?
