Elvis Presley Watch goes up for sale at $24K
Elis Presley’s name triggers a sense of enigmatic admiration for the star, who after 34 years of his death, still manages to remain one of the greatest ever in genre of rock ‘n’ roll music. The ‘King’ as he is still called, had crooned chart busters like ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and enjoyed stardom like few but tragically breathed his last at a young age. Such is the interest that the simplest of his memorabilia auction manages to grab attention such as we showed in our coverage of the sale of his Mercedes Benz 600. Another such piece is his personal wrist watch which will go on sale for a price of $24,000, conducted by Windham Jewelers.

The watch in question is of a Hamilton make with 14K Gold frame, a black leather strap and inscriptions which read ‘Welcome home Elvis, from the Tankers’ on the back. The Tankers were one of Elvis’s earliest fan clubs and they gave him the watch when he returned from the military in 1960. As per a letter written by Elvis’ uncle Vester Presley, which shall be an accompaniment with the watch, said that it was a gift to the ‘king’ on his return to Memphis after his stint with the military. After 6 months of usage, the watch needed repairs and hence Elvis gave it to his uncle to get it fixed but later decided to let him keep it. The watch changed many hands along the way, and was the star attraction at several shows. One of the previous auction houses which owned the watch, The Singer Collection, has a sales representative who recalls with a heavy heart that she was to see Elvis perform on a nation-wide tour, but one day before the event started, Elvis breathed his last. However, this has not been the only instance of such heart-breaking instances. Bruce Lee’s fur coat, which he was supposed to use in one of his movies, garnered similar attention amongst his fans. Similar to Elvis, the Kung-Fu maestro passed away before the movie was completed.
