Eye-catching Copper Collection by Tom Dixon

Naveen Kumar / Mar 18 2008

With its historical position as the first metal worked by man, copper has a crucial role in high technology industries and innovation with applications from solar cells to microwave radiation. These are the words quoted by famed designer Tom Dixon for his eye-catching creations. His Copper Collection symbolizes dynamic and flexible properties of using copper. Two of the products at company’s site that caught my attention at the first looks were Fat Spot and is Copper Shade. Copper Shade brings a sculptural sophistication to any interior, either alone or grouped as a dramatic chandelier cluster. The pure copper used is a vacuum metalised film, only microns thick, on the interior of a polycarbonate sphere, creates an enriched and softened light source. On the other hand, Fat Spot is a healthy alternative to the range of minimal architectural spotlights on the shelves. It delivers either a gentle glow or broad directional light using an appropriate bulb. The Copper Shade and the fat Spot are priced at $498 and $505 respectively.
