Forget private island, own your own town

Pankaj Goswami / Mar 29 2010

While owning a private island would always remain at the top when it comes to the hottest trends among the world’s billionaires, the dream of living on an island is often unpalatable for people when the reality of living comfortably in isolation with no stores or restaurants within walking (or swimming) distance creeps in. So for those who want nightclubs, bars and most importantly 24-hour pharmacies should look at owning their own town. The offer might sound to have come from colonial period, but Wauconda, a small town in eastern Washington is up for auction on eBay. Complete with its own post office, restaurant, gas station and four-acre owner's ranch, this mountain resort near the Canadian border is being sold by Daphne Fletcher, who previously tried to sell Wauconda in 2008 for $1.1 million. The bidding has already exceeded $359,000 and the offer excludes the community hall and the school building. With such an exotic location and limitless possibilities, this town is sure to attract some international bidders, but you've got to hurry, as the auction is due to close on April 2, 2010.
