Frauscher-Meissen sculpture: Powerboat design meets porcelain art!

Naveen Kumar / Apr 7 2011

Do you want to know what Ferrari, Chanel and Frauscher have in common? These three exclusive brands are the source of inspiration for Meissen, the public porcelain manufacturer, when it comes to designing extraordinary sculptures. When Meissen’s art director Jörg Danielczyk saw the Frauscher 757 St. Tropez motor yacht, he was so much enthralled that he decided to recreate it in porcelain. To understand the inspiration behind Jörg Danielczyk’s idea to create this sculpture based on a motorboat, we need to go through his personal statement that reads…

I am running through the garden with a white paper boat in my hand. The boat storms away ... contours blur ... spray splashes ... I can hear the engine drone, the noise of the water, I am living in my own world of fantasies and dreams...

To recreate the Frauscher yacht, flaunting a harmonic balance of technology and design, wasn’t the challenge for Jörg. His primary purpose was to show the character of the yacht in a dynamic moment in line with the element water. The highlights of the sculpture underline the gradient of the layout.

Floating passages of boat and water result in the unit of the sculpture and leave empty space for imaginations. An amazing example of the interaction between tradition, art, handcraft, design and innovation, the Frauscher-MEISSEN sculpture comes for a cool €4,200 ($6,000).

Thanks, Johann Urbanek
