Jeff Koons' Pink Panther sculpture goes for $16.8 million
The works by American artist Jeff Koons are always the highlight of the auctions. Now, Jeff Koons’ iconic Pink Panther sculpture has fetched $16.8 million at Sotheby’s May 10 contemporary art auction. It was earlier expected to sell for between $20 million and $30 million. The 1988 porcelain sculpture of a semi-naked blonde woman hugging a pink panther toy is an edition of only three.

The other two are with the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art and a private U.S. collection. Some of Koon’s iconic works include the Blue Diamond (2005) that went for a cool $11.8 million and the 3,500-pound, hot-pink Hanging Heart that fetched a whopping $23.6 million.
Until now, the record price paid for Koons’ work is $25.7 million, when “Balloon Flower (Magenta)” was sold for $25.7 million in 2008.
