London penthouse apartment sells for record £136 million
UPADTE: Ukraine's richest man turns out to be the owner of the world's most expensive flat. A central London penthouse flat is being reported to have been sold for a whopping £136.6 million, which makes it the most expensive in the world. The two-floor six-bedroom apartment at One Hyde Park development has a penthouse view over Central London, a private wine-tasting facility and an underground passage to a Heston Blumenthal restaurant. Part of Christian and Nick Candy's Knightsbridge development of 86 apartments, the flat even features a panic room and bulletproof windows for those unwanted situations. There are SAS-trained security guards who make sure you are always safe inside. The apartment costs more than £6,000 per square foot and boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, a car park and access to spas and squash courts. Trevor Abrahamson of estate agent Glentree Estates said…
This is a huge price. In the last six months we have sold more trophy properties than we have in the last two years. One minute there was an over-supply and then there was a shortage. Prices are high. The preceding most expensive apartment was valued at £115 million in a rival Central London development in 2008.
