Historical items have always caught the eye of the collectors; and they could indeed be abstract. A property entrepreneur based in London, has recently purchased the nose of the famous Concorde passenger airplane for £100,000 ($161,480). Now, as is being said in the social circles, his wife hasn’t yet been informed of the purchase!

The nose of the airplane, which was designed specifically to help the pilots get a better view while landing, has been bought by the anonymous collector as an art piece for his residence. He bought over the unique item from Mr. Andrew Lamberty who had earlier bought it from the curator of the British Airway museum, Mr. Paul Jarvis. The latter had initially taken it to the office of Channel 4 to raise funds. Once it landed with Mr. Lamberty, he was able to sell of this piece of history to the anonymous buyer.

The reason for this particular art-piece to become known was its exclusivity. It was one of the two spare parts, which British Airways had, of the famous Concord passenger plane which had taken its last flight in 2003. The plane was known for its powerful engine and luxurious amenities which made it fly at high speeds of up to 1350 mph, but tragically met with an accident in 2003. After this incident, the services were closed. A complete sample of the plane can be found at the Museum of British Airways at the Heathrow Airport in London.

This hasn’t been the only instance where people have collected extra-ordinarily rare items. Actor Nicholas Cage purchased a 67million year old skull of a dinosaur for £ 171,116 ($276,000) in 2009 and also the sale of the Giant Groth Skeleton earlier this year for £279,076 ($450,000) in Florida. One can only say that the tastes are indeed varied when it comes to owning pieces of history.
