While the worlds most expensive apartment in London went for a whopping 136 million ($222 million), the most expensive apartment in China, if we believe the sources, is up for grabs for a cool RMB 300 million ($46.2 million). An anonymous representative of the real estate developer in Beijing has revealed that the luxury penthouse apartment, with more than 1,000 sq m of area, has an asking price of RMB 300,000 ($46,200) per square meter. The apartment sits next to the Diaoyutai State Guest House, the historic hotel and guesthouse complex that was the permanent residence of Jiang Qing (or Madame Mao) during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). The Diaoyutai includes a number of buildings, houses and lush gardens.

What makes this apartment so expensive?

The first thing that justifies the apartments $46.2 million price tag is its location, right next to the historical Diaoyutai State Guest House, which receives highest praises when it comes to places for a stay in China. The propertys representative said that the price was decided after taking into account the location, the furnishings, the layout and the subtle details. Moreover, there are car parks in the development, costing RMB 45,000 per sq m.

While some people have visited the apartment, no one has actually dared yet to splurge $46.2 million on it.
