Sotheby's to sell 10.99ct fancy intense pink diamond and a royal tiara
Sotheby’s upcoming sale of Magnificent jewels and Nobel Jewels on May 17 in Geneva is headed by a rare emerald-cut fancy intense pink diamond weighing in at 10.99 carats, and the most important emerald and diamond tiara to have appeared at auction in over 30 years. The 10.99-carat ring has its shoulders set with triangular stones, mounted in platinum. The diamond is a Type IIa pink diamond, which is very rare in nature and is known for its mostly homogenous color in the rough.

On the other hand, the emerald and diamond tiara up for grabs was formerly in the collection of Princess Katharina Henckel von Donnersmarck circa 1900. The base is set a central row of 11 large cushion-shaped diamonds. There are 11 exceptionally rare Colombian emerald pear-shaped drops weighing 500 carats.
While the fancy pink diamond is expected to sell for between CHF 8.3 million and CHF 14.8 million ($9.4 million and $17 million), the tiara is expected to sell for between CHF 4.6 million and CHF 9.2 million ($5.2 million and $10.5 million).
Last month, a 10.09-carat cushion cut, fancy vivid purplish pink diamond, which we listed in our list of important upcoming auctions for 2011, failed to sell at the Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Auction on April 12.
