Symbian-based Nokia Oro goes for an 18-carat gold job

Naveen Kumar / May 26 2011

We have seen plenty of gold plated Nokia handsets, but the latest one comes from the house of Nokia itself. A great option for those who can’t afford a Vertu version, the new Nokia Oro features 18-carat gold plating, a sapphire crystal and leather from one of Scotland’s finest Caledonian herds. The Oro (meaning “Gold” in Italian) handset is basically the Symbian-based Nokia C7, which has been given the gilded treatment.

The new Nokia Oro comes with an AMOLED screen, 720p video recording, 8-megapixel camera and a pentaband radio. When it comes to the functionality, it’s no different from the rest of Nokia smartphones. All that creates the difference is the gold job. Expected to hit the shelves in Q3 in select countries across Europe and Asia, the Nokia Oro will cost upwards of €800 ($1,120).
