The Chilean-born designer, Sebastian Errazuriz, is known for his uncanny design and art pieces, including the teddy bear coat and a zipper dress. The New York-based artist and designer had a very strong artistic background, which has metamorphosed in his latest piece of functional artworks, aptly titled “Metamorphosis.” The inspiration for the bookshelf came from his grandmother’s ivy-covered garden, and the bookshelf similarly runs along the wall to serve as shelves. The sculptural furniture is crafted from limited edition Baltic birch plywood shelf and is hand-carved by the Italian company Horm. The Metamorphosis bookshelf will debut at an exhibition of the artist’s furniture work "beautiful premonitions," which opens April 28th, 2011 at the Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York.
