Once the Grand Princess returns back after a 24-day makeover this spring, the passengers who have sailed on the cruise ship before may not be able to recognize her. Princess Cruises will pull Grand Princess out of service soon to give it an extreme makeover, which will not be just the change of carpets and fresh paints. The striking makeover will be done at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas between April 11 and May 4, 2011. Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president, said…

This is the largest makeover we’ve ever undertaken for any of our ships. When Grand Princess was launched she was the most innovative ship at sea, and now we’re adding some of the later innovations we introduced on subsequent ships.

The elegant Grand Princess is known for its lavish onboard amenities and exciting features, including the “Movies Under the Stars” outdoor theater, Atlantis Casino, Snooker’s Cigar Bar and lavish staterooms, but they say that the best is yet to come.

One5 Lounge: The Grand Princess will have its Skywalkers Nightclub replaced with the new One5 lounge. The new lounge is inspired by the most happening urban nightclubs, and will feature modern seating, lighting and a stunning backlit bar. The One5 Lounge will be made on the top deck of the ship.

New Piazza atrium: Another highlight of the new Grand Princess cruise ship will be the signature Piazza atrium. This versatile social hub of the ship will combine always-changing quick bites and light meals, beverages, entertainment, shopping and guest services. The Piazza will feature the International Café for pastries, grilled panini sandwiches, salads, fresh-baked cookies and a range of coffee drinks. A new Vines wine bar will offers the passengers a selection of more than 30 wines by the glass.

Leaves Tea Lounge and Library: It’s always good to have a hot cup of tea while reading a good book. The new “Leaves” on the Grand Princess cruise ship will let passengers enjoy personalized tea blends with a variety of base teas with herbs, fruits and spices. Created in collaboration with Mighty Leaf Tea Company, the Leaves will offer a choice of up to 500 different tea blends.

Alfredo’s Pizzeria: The new Alfredo’s aboard the cruise ship is a pizzeria with a mouth watering menu of freshly prepared individual-size pizzas. The pizzeria will have an open kitchen where passengers can watch chefs create the pizzas.

Crown Grill: The one-of-a-kind “Crown Grill” restaurant boasts an open, theater-style kitchen where chefs make premium-aged beef and fresh seafood items, including lobster.

The makeover also includes 10 new suites, remodeled casino, boutiques and art gallery, changes to the Horizon Court, Lotus Spa, wedding chapel and the new Crooner’s Martini Lounge. The new Grand Princess will be unveiled on May 5 in Ft. Lauderdale.
