Grand Theft Auto 5 Sales Surpass $1 Billion: Expected to Reach $3 Billion!
Game enthusiasts were very eager for the latest release of Grand Theft Auto Five.
Grand Theft Auto V sales reached its $1 billion mark in just three days after it hit the stores, a rate faster than any other video game or movie has achieved.
The game, created by Take Two Interactive Inc. is the fifth and latest installment of GTA and received $800 million on its first day. It received strong reviews and sparked a national debate for its adult content and violence.
“Grand Theft Auto V, the critically acclaimed latest release from the iconic interactive entertainment series, has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than one billion dollars during its first three days on sale, according to company estimates,” Take Two Interactive Inc said. It added, “We believe this marks the fastest that any entertainment property, including video games and feature films, has reached this significant milestone.”
Moreover, it has beaten Call of Duty: Black Ops II which raked $1 billion mark after 15 days. Avatar received the same amount in 17 days while it took 19 days for The Avengers to reach the same record. Grand Theft Auto 5 is expected to surpass $3 billion in sales over time.
The game was released in 2008 and allows players to cruise around the gameworld based on real-life locations such as Los Angeles. It costs between $200 million and $250 million and is only available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
