The game, created by Take Two Interactive Inc. is the fifth and latest installment of GTA and received $800 million on its first day. It received strong reviews and sparked a national debate for its adult content and violence.
"Grand Theft Auto V, the critically acclaimed latest release from the iconic interactive entertainment series, has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than one billion dollars during its first three days on sale, according to company estimates," Take Two Interactive Inc said. Avatar received the same amount in 17 days while it took 19 days for The Avengers to reach the same record. Grand Theft Auto 5 is expected to surpass $3 billion in sales over time.
