Grieb & Benzinger unveil 3 of the world’s heaviest platinum watches

Watchmaker Grieb & Benzinger, along with elite guests from Rolls-Royce Motorcars and Revolution Magazine, have unveiled 3 masterpiece watches, which are supposedly the heaviest and most complicated platinum watches in the world. Known for their detailed and individualistic crafting, the total value of watch set is known to be in excess of $1.5 million. Unveiled at a private ceremony in Singapore, the watches included were the Blue Danube, Blue Whirlwind, and Blue Sensation. From what is to be gathered, they are creating quiet the waves in the haute horological world, as they come with solid platinum casings and core movements developed from the house of Patek Philippe, over 120 years ago.

Out of this limited edition set of watches, the features which stand out are the refined guilloche, hand crafting and skeletonization, and of course the traditional Grieb & Benzinger Breguet frost finishing, which now has become a signature of their products. The work on the sterling silver surface is almost exemplary, considering the detailing.

Beginning with the series, is the Blue Danube timepiece. Priced at around $450,000 per unit, the core movement of the watch is the 120 year old concept, which has been redone with all its 400 microscopic parts. This has been known to be the most time consuming and extensive parts of the whole production process.

Next in the series is the Blue Whirlwind, which houses the legendary movement named Caliber R TO 27 PS, which has otherwise broken records at auctions. Sources say that, a watch from Patek Philippe which had this movement, sold for a price in excess of $1.4 million, despite being made majorly with stainless steel. However, the Blue Whirlwind is supposed to be retailing for around $850,000 a piece.

The last in the series, is the Blue Sensation, which is the only skeletonized split-seconds chronograph on the market, which includes the 1890-born watch movement, which in this case has once again been restored and modified according to the needs of this watch. With a 49mm wide circular dial, the watch is quiet the addition on the wrist with 230 grams of weight. Though a giant by all means, it’s the least expensive of the lot with a price tag of $260,000.
