Henry Moore Statuette Sold for a Million Pounds at Bonhams Auction
A Henry Moore Marble Statuette auctioned by Bonhams auction house sold to a private collector for a price of more than one million pounds. The Mother and Child Statuette is the most expensive work of art sold in London this year. The bottle-green statuette was carved by the artist in 1931 and is made in finest verde di Prato marble. The statuette was described by the legendary artist to be among one of his best earlier pieces. The sculpture had not been seen in public since a London exhibition in 1968. The price fetch by this statuette is a record price for a carving by the British sculptor.
An amazing fact about the beautiful work of art is that it was sold to the director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in the very year it was made for a price under 19 pounds!!
