The Honda S2000 is a rear-wheel drive concept-roadster which was launched as a reality in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Honda Motor Company in 1999. However, it made its first appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show in the year 1995. The S2000 arrived in two models – the AP1 and the AP2. The latter was a revised and improved model released in 2004. The car underwent further improvements in 2006 and again in 2008. It was finally discontinued from 2009. The base model had been stickered for a price of $35,700 but since its production has stopped now, prices may vary based on availability.
The rave reviews and awards that the car received are largely due to its superlative engine. With a 6-speed manual transmission and 16-valve DOHC VTEC valvetrain, the naturally aspirated inline-4 engine provides 237 bhp at 8000 rpm. The powertrain won the 'International engine of the year' award and the car was rated number one in a news survey. This translates into a torque of 207 Nm which revvs up the car from 0 to 100 kmh in 6.4 seconds. It has top speeds of over 200 kmh. Its launch is smooth and powerful. The roadster engine feeds on petrol.
The interiors are as spacious as they can be in a roadster with the two seats in the front having ample leg-room and infinite headroom! Most of the cars carried a sporty red and black upholstery but the seats arrived in other colors too. The dashboard is minimalist in terms of style but has a truckload of information to offer via its various dials and gauges. The dashboard in black enhances the sporty feel of the car.
The roadster arrives with a long bonnet. The smooth slope of the bonnet from the base of the windshield is reminiscent of the S500, S600 and S800 which were the S2000's predecessors. The car is sleek and sexy in appearance. An elaborate headlight assembly and LED tail lights add to the charm of the car which also has stylish oval-tipped double-exhausts. The protruding front and rear bumpers not only enhance safety but add to the striking looks too.
