Hublot Magic Gold watches are the world's first to use scratch-resistant gold

Wrik Sen / Dec 16 2011

This year, a number of watch makers were seen introducing special editions of their watches, one being Hublot. We saw the Ferrari Chronograph, Dwayne Wade watch, and also the Classic fusion chronograph from the watchmaker, who has now decided to take a lead in their field of mastery. Their latest creation is the Hublot Magic gold watch, which uses a special alloy of gold and other metals, which make the fabric completely scratch resistant. From what the scenario in the luxury watch market is, this creation makes Hublot the first in the world to use this special variety of the gold alloy.

It’s been 3 years, and now the success of creating this alloy has come across. All these years have been used to research and experiment to create this metal, and now several patents are being awaited regarding the use of this metal, as Hublot has lead this from the forefront. Looking into the technical aspects of this substance, we came to know that this metal will only be scratched by something as hard as a diamond, as the hardness is known to be 1000 Vickers (most steel varieties have around 600 Vickers of hardness, and gold has around 400). Due to this very reason, the substance becomes virtually scratch resistant, and future estimates see the use of this alloy in a variety of products. If one were to define how this was achieved, it can be said that gold and ceramics were molten at extremely high temperatures under an inert gas, and then blended together. Due to this process, the resultant substance was born with the hardness of both substances combined, making it virtually scratch resistant.

In terms of technicalities of the watch, nothing is yet known except that it will be showcased at Basel World 2012. Keeping in mind the previous creations of Hublot, one may not see new features, but will definitely see a master timepiece in this newly created gold alloy.
