Exclusive images disclose a look enthused by the 918 Spyder and the Panamera Sport Tourismo, which recently debuted in the Paris Motor Show. As is sufficiently clear from the initial screenshots revealed by the ace German carmaker, the design of the new super 961 is closer to the design specs of 918 Spider. However, in conceptualizing the anatomy of the 961, the craftsmen have conserved the brand’s inimitable style. The design of the new Porsche 961 is unparalleled to say the least, but the fact that the current design on display isn’t the official version of the model and the changes that can be incorporated at a later stage may be drastic.

The real purpose behind pursuing the 961 is to plug the void between the 911 GT2 RS and the hybrid 918 Spyder. The new model is expected to get a caption of 961 in the U.K, as there was already a model which was produced earlier by that name. In 1986 Porsche did launch a single edition of the Porsche 961 that participated in the Le Mans.  This model was very agile and a true Porsche legend of that era and was specifically built for rally racing in Le Mans and other similar races. However, the Porsche 961 participated in only three races and the entire production of future models of the series was cancelled because of a deadly crash in a race held in Portugal.

According to industry experts closely following the lead, the supercar currently housed at Zuffenhausen will cost close to a staggering 250,000 pounds or just over $350,000. The car is most likely to be driven by a 4.6-liter V8 engine seen commonly on the 918, having a total output of 577 hp. The new super Porsche 961 will sprint from zero to 100 km/hr within three seconds. Porsche has not declared any tentative timeline for bringing the supercar into production. But the German marquee has an ambitious program, whose main goal is to sell over 200,000 cars in different categories this year, and according to a leading car magazine, the 961 is definitely an integral part of those plans.
