Jeff Koons’ hot-pink heart to fetch nearly $20 million
Other than the Francis bacon’s Bullfight and a rare 710-year-old copy of the Magna Carta, up for auction at Sothbey’s will be a nearly 9-foot-tall, stainless- steel heart by Jeff Koons. Valued at about $20 million, it could set an auction record for a living artist at Sotheby’s contemporary art sale on Nov. 14 in New York. Currently, the record is with Damien Hirst’s Lullaby Spring, a 2002 pill-cabinet sculpture that went for $19.3 million. It took 15 workers nearly 14 hours to dangle Koons’s lustrous pink heart from the ceiling. If you are taking it for lightweight, you are mistaken as this lovely heart weighs 3,500 pounds (1,600 kilograms). The ‘Hanging Heart (Magenta Gold),’ from the Celebration series, is touching. I know you have heaps of money lying here and there. Don’t you think it’s the just right thing to impress your gal?
