Joe Stirt – Cool Geek of the Week
If this long gap since we helped you get the first anesthesia shot administered from the expert anesthesiologist Joe Stirt seems to be wearing out; here is another quick dose to keep you right here with us. Lost…already?
1). Lawrence: Joe, you don’t link to others’ blog posts. Does that mean Book of Joe is a personal diary of Joe Stirt just as the name depicts?
Joe: Yes, I guess so — but in the very broadest sense, that is, a diary of my likes, dislikes, fascinations, obsessions and whatever strikes my fancy that particular day.
2). Kim: You don’t advertise on your blog at all, what do you do for a living?
Joe: I’m an anesthesiologist. Or, as we say in the profession, a gas passer.
3). Vikas: Traditional vs. Online: your take?
Joe: Well, I guess I can’t really choose, since my input is 99% traditional/”old media” (newspapers, magazines, books, TV, movies) yet my output is 100% new media, i.e. bookofjoe.
4). Karen: If you have to pick your favorite geek, who would he/she be?
Joe: Shawn Zehnder Lea, majordomo of everythingandnothing.typepad.com. Years ago she appointed herself head of my crack research team and has done a bang-up job ever since.
5). Carol: You post 7 days a week, 365 days a year, all by yourself. How do you manage to do that? Ever heard of writer’s block?
Joe: You neglected to mention that 8 posts a day are the rule. I must have writer’s blockhead to be that persistent. There is no other possible explanation.
6). Michael: You have interest in philosophy. What’s your favorite quote?
Joe: “If it can happen, it will happen.” I made it up.
7). Neha: Your favorite gadget covered so far, this year?
Joe: Oh, that’s easy: Weight Loss Sunglasses: http://www.bookofjoe.com/2008/03/weight-loss-sun.html
8). Matt: How would you describe your target audience?
Joe: Anyone who wants be certain they’ll find something of interest every single day.
9). Allen: You say you don’t read blogs. Does that make other bloggers indifferent to you as well?
Joe: It might, I can’t say. But sites like Boing Boing, Gizmodo, USA Today, Wired, Make, Slashfood and their ilk link to me often so I guess it doesn’t bother everyone.
10. Lisa: What do you like being most: a). Anesthesiologist b). Blogger?
Joe: No contest: anesthesiology is boring while blogging is compelling and interesting.
11. Team: Your views on BornRich & Instablogs network?
