John Lennon: Detention Records up for Auction for $5000 Each
“He don’t want to go to school and learn to read and write/Just sits around the house and plays the rock and roll music all night.” These lines from The Beatles’ “Bad Boy” seem to be inspired by John Lennon’s bad boy image way back in high school. The late singer’s school detention records are up for an auction. It contains two detention sheets at Liverpool's Quarry Bank high school containing the 15-year-old’s misbehavior and is expected to sell up to $5000 each. Lennon was dubbed the “class clown” for his misdeeds such as "shoving" and "fighting in class." His other offenses listed are “nuisance", "silliness", "shouting", "sabotage” and "just no interest whatsoever".  It was also stated that Lennon received three detentions on a single day. “The sheet is typical of John Lennon. He was an extremely cheeky boy,” said Peter Beech, Lennon’s General Science teacher at the time. “He did, however, know his limits. In the classroom, if you settled John down, you generally settled the class down. His chemistry teacher Eric Oldman said that John could actually go far.” The reports made in 1955, were retrieved in late 1970s by a teacher who was told to burn the books but decided to keep it after seeing the name “Lennon” in the memorabilia. It covers the period when Lennon was in Class 3B, between 19 May and 23 June 1955, and in Class 4C from 25 November 1955 to 13 February 1956. Two years after, in 1957, he met Paul McCartney and formed The Beatles.  The band had their first hit in late 1962 with the song “Love Me Do”. The behavioural records plus Beatles’ other memorabilia will be put on sale at TrackAuction.com on 22 November. The items include Beatles’ sighed White Album expected to fetch between $90, 000 to $130, 000, handwritten lyrics to an unpublished 1960s song by Sir Paul McCartney and an unpublished Lennon sketch.
