Designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1986, The Statue of Liberty, a colossal neoclassical sculpture of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tablet evoking the law upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776, towering on Liberty Island in New York Harbor was a gift to the United States from the people of France. Gifted particularly to celebrate the centenary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, The Statue of Liberty is an exceptionally sized work of art that became a symbol of human rights. Now, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of this icon of freedom and of the United States, the top Swiss luxury watchmaker RJ-Romain Jerome has unveiled the fruit of an unprecedented collaborative endeavor with The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation and Gold Leaf Corporation. An exclusively new RJ-Romain Jerome timepiece merging the brand DNA with that of Miss Liberty, thereby giving shape to a new symbolic legend, the Liberty-DNA. We have also earlier seen the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual watch which displays every facet of time known, and is a tribute to the United States flag.
With this watch, the watchmaking Maison RJ-Romain Jerome pays tribute to the Statue of Liberty, and bears testimony to history and plays its responsible part in striving to ensure that liberty continues to enlighten future generations.
Loyal to the aesthetic of the most iconic of all emblems of liberty The Statue of Liberty, the bronze bezel of this Liberty-DNA watch is adorned with 12 spikes reminiscent of the statue’s famous crown. Further, it’ll acquire a delightful patina as it ages over time, thereby adopting the color of the original, whose precious DNA is featured on the dial.
Additionally, particles of Miss Liberty have also been incorporated into the verdigris dial which also evokes the color of oxidized copper.
Setting the perfect finishing touch, this 125-piece limited edition watch sports bronze colored facetted hands and the vintage brown alligator leather strap. Also, the medallion on the case-back of the watch depicts the flame of liberty lighting up the stars and stripes of the American national flag.
Also, we have earlier seen the auction of 1823 printing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence that fetched $597,500, besides the American historical memorabilia on sale which includes George Washington’s 1789 Acts of Congress, President Abraham Lincoln’s manuscript Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction and USS Constitution naval flag collection.
