Limited edition Radoux X-Blend barrel with Swarovski-studded stopper
During the Vinitech wine equipment and technology show in Bordeaux, French cooperage Radoux showcased a limited edition leather-bound barrel with a Swarovski-studded bung (stopper). Aimed straight at winemakers, the luxury X-Blend barrel is made of oak from France’s top forests, and boasts metal hoops covered with attractive leather strips. The limited edition X-Blend barrel sells for €1200 (approx. US $1552), which is almost double the price you pay for a normal one. Radoux marketing director Pierre Chiberry cited that they were able to sell 20 of these barrels at Vinitech despite the global financial meltdown situation. The first barrels were created in June for multimillionaire tycoon Bernard Magrez, who bought four of them for his Chateaux – Pape Clement, Fombrauge and La Tour Carnet.
