Los Angeles Unified School District To Receive 31,000 Free iPads For Students
According to recent news reports "The Los Angeles Unified School district", the second largest district in the US has agreed to buy around $30 million worth of iPads. Apparently it is planning to give all of their students’ free iPads by the end of 2014 as part of a unique scheme. The innovative programme aims to distribute a grand total of 6,40,000 iPads to all students residing in the district . The strategy behind the gargantuan iPad distribution plan is to improve the education level of the students and getting them ready for the new globalized workforce by enhancing their technological skills which they will not be exposed to in their routine day to day tasks. However the first lot of 31,000 iPads is only expected to fulfill the needs of the early stages of the program which will be gradually ramped up. Apparently their goal is to first target those children who hail from financially weak backgrounds and as a consequence doesn't have their own laptops or iPads. Therefore the institution is trying to prepare the kids for the rigors of the technological world which they will encounter once they enter university. It seems that each and every student is getting the iPads that will come equipped with all the new features including the preloaded educational applications which can be profitably used by them in their studies. However according to media reports all the students in the first phase of the project will receive their iPads when their new school year begins in August 2013. This new innovative project came into being as the authorities realized the importance of computer skills in the modern professional world. These days many routine activities in diverse industries ranging from construction to automobile production have been automated and it is understandable that the authorities don’t want children to miss out on any new opportunities in a fast globalizing job market. The gadgets can make the students as well teachers help to plan better and synchronize busy schedules, go through interactive lessons as well as conduct digital reading tests. Reportedly digital textbooks will also be delivered along with the iPads as part of this unique project as they will also help to save money by eliminating the need for traditional paper based textbooks. Several proposals to supply these devices came from manufactures of the likes of Apple and Samsung.. Finally after much serious deliberations Apple was chosen as the vendor since it has managed to establish a sizeable footprint in the educational market.
