Hi-Macs Sleepbox modernizes your sleeping space in semi-public areas

For people who like to keep things conventional or look at the regular stock of furniture for their everyday use, they might be in for plenty of surprises with the Hi-Macs Sleepbox. With a designer that’s bent on experimenting with shapes and formations, like in the case of the Horn iPod dock and Ora Ito seat, one can always hope for something unconventional or rather practically feasible for use, such as this one. For those who need to catch a short nap at semi-public areas such as airports or long duty hour jobs, it doesn’t get any more convenient than this Sleepbox.

Casper Lohner, was the main brain behind the conceptualization of this unique piece of furniture. He was however, assisted by the likes of Mathias Bernhard and Manuel Kretzer, who are both distinguished names in the world of design. In the end, the result was the Sleepbox, which is the need of the hour in semi-public areas where people need to catch up on some much needed sleep. In terms of uniqueness, the Sleepbox has been made of the MDF fabric structured into this shape with the help of a vacuum membrane press, after being bought out as flat sheets from a 3-axis CNC Milling machine. This fabric was similar, in some ways, to wood and hence received a similar treatment during the final process of its manufacture. Each component was put together by glue to create the perfect shape that it is in now.

Though not meant for the ultimate comfort, this Sleepbox allows two adults to use this furniture at the same time, by using the specially made mattress placed in the upper and lower pockets. Other than this, there are several practical advantages such as an endless list of ways in which it can be customized specially for exterior design and color, resistance to bacteria, fire proofing, and also long term durability. So, whether it’s about going for a make shift camp, or having extra guests over at your place, the Sleepbox will offer a plethora of practical uses in different areas. To see it in person, one would have to present between 17th and 21st January 2012, at Swissbau 2012, which shall be a prime event for the construction and real estate industry. Perhaps only then will details such as pricing be revealed.
