A cocktail-length dress worn by the original blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe in 1958 has fetched a record-breaking $348,000 on Sunday, May 8. Julien’s Auctions cited that the late screen goddess and timeless icon wore the stunning dress to a party at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It’s a black crepe cocktail dress with deep V-neck and low-cut back, with pouf hemline. The interior label reads “front” to identify the front of the dress.

The “front” was a common addition to custom made garments from that era. Monroe is seen wearing the same dress on the cover of the book “Marilyn Monroe: From Beginning to End” by Michael Ventura. This dress surpassed its presale estimate of between $20,000 and $30,000 by a large sum.

Other Monroe memorabilia sold at the auction included an MGM-branded one-piece bathing suit ($84,000), original negatives and transparencies ($73,800), Pucci ensemble ($48,000) and a bra liner ($6,785). Most of the items offered at the auction far exceeded auction estimates.
