Unveiled in September 2009, the McLaren MP4-12C is the first car since the McLaren F1 that has been completely designed and produced by the company. The dual seat sports coupe makes use of several Formula 1 technologies to lend stability and control. The car arrives in two variants - the HS and the Convertible. In the fag end of 2010, McLaren announced that this car would participate in the FIA GT3 European Championship. There has been no looking back after that with the car securing victories at two races organised by Hexis Racing. The two seater car sells for a price above $200,000.
As you open the doors of an MP4, an elegantly bolstered seat welcomes you. The two-seater coupe has been made to provide kingly comforts for a couple. The central console has been impressively and intelligently arranged. A single red button revvs up the engine. There are knobs to adjust the parameters of the powertrain as well as to set the handling parameters. The armrests hold other less-critical controls. Steering wheel is carbon-fiber rimmed and the seats have been upholstered in quality leather. Ample leg-room and head-room ensure that the journey is a comfortable one.
Designed by Frank Stephenson, the McLaren MP4-12C has been constructed extensively using carbon fiber. The Carbon Monocell, a single carbon-fiber tub modeled along F1 lines forms the basis of the chassis. The surface has been finished in a plush manner. The doors open up like insect wings and add to the aerodynamic looks of the stylish sports car. The front grille with the slender yet large headlamps seems to give the car a face with a superiority smile. The windshield and windows have a stylized slope which flow into the strong masculine lines of the car. Sport rims have been added to the wheels which enhance its sporty look.
