The 2013 Mercedes SL 65 AMG stands 170kg lighter in terms of kerb weight than its predecessor thanks to a smart lightweight construction and an all-aluminum body. Its front fascia wears the new AMG brand face which makes it the first model to have this feature. The new high-sheen chrome finished radiator grille features a "twin blade" design with the Mercedes logo sitting pretty up front. The high-sheen chrome treatment has also been used on the side of the wings, the fins on the bonnet, the daytime running lamps’ surrounds and in the front apron’s lower cross strut.

The vario-roof on the model can be retracted in less than 20 seconds since it is electro hydraulically run. A set of 20" multi-spoke forged light-alloy AMG wheels are available on the AMG Sport Package while a new set of 19" titanium grey painted high-sheen finish light-alloy 5-spoke AMG wheels are offered as standard on the 2013 Mercedes SL 65 AMG.
