With two Golden Palms at Cannes Film Festivals in 3 years, Michael Haneke joined the elite group of seven greats like Francis Ford Coppola who did the same before him. His movies in German, French and English are in a bleak and disturbing style meant to raise social issues and problems/failures of the modern society. The total lack of film score is his specialty. He is also well-known as a teacher of directing at Filmacademy Vienna.
Michael Haneke's earnings stem from his successful directorial career which extends not only to films but on-stage as well. He has directed a dozen feature films starting from The Seventh Continent in 1989 till his latest one, the superhit Armour. His movie Hidden grossed more than £1 million in the United Kingdom alone. He has been involved in almost a dozen television films, all of them in German or French. There is also a short film to the credit of Mr. Haneke, who's also a teacher, spreading his unique and unconventional style to future generations.
Michael Haneke's lifestyle, fashion and living have been quite off the radar and secretive. He continues to live in Vienna, Austria where he was born and brought up. He is silent and secretive about everything other than his films and directorial abilities. Nothing much is known about the properties he owns, his net worth, the cars he drives or the fashion he patronizes. With her sterling performances as a director, it will not be surprising if his lifestyle will gain more media attention!
Born to actor/director Fritz Haneke and actress Beatrix von Degenschild, it is not surprising that Michael Haneke got associated intimately with films early in life. Though his early attempts at acting and music were failures, he graduated and became a film critic, working as dramaturg and editor at Südwestfunk. 1974 saw him debut as TV director. It took almost 15 years after that for his feature film debut via The Seventh Continent. He grew and blossomed with 1992's Benny's Video. His big moment arrived with The Piano Teacherin 2001 which won multiple prizes at the Cannes. He debuted as a stage director in 2006 staging Don Giovanniby Mozart. The 2009 Cannes Film Festival saw him win the Palme d'Or for The White Ribbon and he repeated the feat in 2012 for Armour. He is married to Susanne Haneke since 1983. Armour has also been nominated for the 85th Academy Awards for the Best Picture.
