Introduction:

Coming from a background of professional heavyweight boxing, it is not surprising that Mickey Rourke launched off in Hollywood primarily as an action man. He had several successes in his acting stint before becoming a professional boxer. But his knockout punches have been delivered post his professional boxing days. A Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for The Wrestler showed that he was a thorough professional when it came to acting as well.

Wealth :

The two sources of income for Mickey Rourke have been boxing and acting. His professional boxing record has been impeccably clean with 6 wins and no losses. His filmography extends to an impressive 55 titles or so. He has also had half a dozen television roles and about eight direct-to-video roles. He has worked on the screenplay and story of three movies and lent his voice too on several occasions.

Spending:

During the heydays of his career, the actor cum heavyweight boxer owned an impressive home with a pool in Beverly Hills, California. A spending that has been unique to him because of his boxing profession has been the medical bills. He has suffered from a broken nose, ribs, toe, a split tongue, a compressed cheekbone, concussions, short-term memory loss and other scars from the surgeries to right these injuries. He is a big-time motorcycle enthusiast and owns several custom-made bikes including the Black Death, FXR. His other passion is pets, especially small-sized breeds of dogs. For instance he spent more than $5000 to have his pet dog, Loki, flown in during a shoot. And so, understandably, his charity work has been with PETA and the Bony Pony Ranch. He also supports Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Personal Life:

Born to a bodybuilder father, little Mickey Rourke junior had an abusive and difficult childhood. After his parents separated and he moved with his mother into a tough neighborhood, he took to boxing when he was 12. A tough amateur boxing life which gave him two concussions he took to acting starting with Deathwatch, a theater production. His early movie roles were in big flops - 1941 and Heaven's Gate. The eccentric and edgy roles in Body Heat, 9 1/2 Weeks and Barfly won him his first critical praise. That spurred him into entering professional heavyweight boxing with considerable success. Along with that, however, came a downward spiral in personal and acting life. The troubled marriage with model Carre Otis combined with roles in flops had him concentrating more on boxing. But when he suffered brain damage, he gave up boxing and re-entered Hollywood. It was an upward spiral with good performances in The Pledge and Once Upon A Time In Mexicoculminating in an Oscar nomination for The Wrestler in 2008. The same movie won him 10 other awards!
