It is one thing to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth but totally another to turn that spoon golden. Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani personifies this to perfection. Born to the iconic and legendary visionary and entrepreneur Dhirubhai Ambani who established Reliance Industries, Mukesh only inherited his position but not his wealth. The large fortune which he has amassed is a result of the business genius inside him.

As a kid, Mukesh excelled in school and eventually graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He even enrolled for MBA in Stanford University but left the school after one year. In 1981, the 24-year old Ambani joined his father's textile company and immediately made his presence felt with some significant changes. Mukesh was majorly responsible for realizing his father's dream of a global expansion which not only raised the profile of Reliance but also their production shot from a few hundred thousand tons to over twelve million annually. Ambani then ventured into the petrochemical industry with the creation of the world's largest ‘grassroots’ petroleum refinery in Gujarat, India.

He also went on to set up one of India's largest telecommunications companies in history, Reliance Communications Limited with his younger brother, Anil. But soon the two brothers parted ways and had they had not split, Ambani's net worth would be around $85 billion making them the richest family on the planet. They say sky is the limit for Mukesh who owns a 60-storey high home, Antilla. The world's most expensive private residence cost Ambani a mind-boggling $2 billion. One of the world’s most illustrious businessmen, Mukesh Ambani is also the owner of an Indian Premier League team, the Mumbai Indians.
