The daughter of the Indian Sitar maestro, Ravi Shankar and Sue Jones, Norah Jones is a jazz diva sounding like Dusty Springfield and a piano-mistress too! She claimed global spotlight with a record-breaking 8 Grammys for her debut album, Come Away With Me (2002). The albums that followed were all mighty successes and won her another Grammy. Though she rarely flaunts herself, the world considers her smokin' hot and she carries herself with effortless grace. Norah Jones' success has been entirely her extra-ordinary songwriting and singing. She never seems to even be close to learning the meaning of failure as her albums have been hits, one after another. While Feels Like Home sold over 14 million copies, her 2007 album, Not Too Late sold 720,000 copies in the first week itself! A total of 28 awards and 42 nominations speak for themselves. Add to these her filmography which has a dozen titles including the successful, Grammy-nominated My Blueberry Nights. Norah Jones is a reserved and private celebrity when it comes to her life and living. She is never the one to flaunt and it indeed is difficult to spot her leading any sort of lavish lifestyle. As revealed to Oprah Winfrey, she shops for clothes maybe once a year at Target! Her $25 million net-worth makes her lifestyle look too simple - but that is how she is! She has been spotted enjoying herself in Cannes, France but that is about it. She supports a large number of charities to bring economic relief and disaster relief among the other things.LIVESTRONG, Aid Still Required, United for Peace and Justice and Gram Parsons Foundation are some of the charities she supports. Her passion is the piano and she admits to be sort of addicted to it. She also loves to cook and decorate. Since she had a strong music aptitude, she enrolled in the Booker T Washington High School for Performing and Visual Arts. It was here that she chose the jazz piano as her instrument in which she majored from the University of North Texas. She started a local band, supporting herself between waitressing jobs. She got a break when Bruce Lundvall, the Blue Note president heard her sample tapes and signed her right away. A year later came the tremendously successful Come Away With Me which sold 20 million copies. The neo-jazz singer then toured extensively as if in celebration of her sweep at the Grammys. 2004 saw the release of a more 'country-ish' Feels like Home which won another Grammy. The 2007 album, Not Too Late hit No.1 spot in over 20 countries. Her success rubbed off into a good acting career too. From 2000 to 2007 she was in a relationship with Lee Alexander.

  • My mom and I have always been very close. She is my best friend. She had to make a lot of sacrifices early on in my life to make sure I got to do what I wanted to do.
  • Without a piano I don't know how to stand, don't know what to do with my hands.
  • For me making music is part social, part interaction, part collaboration.
  • All is fair in love and songwriting.
  • I feel like all the songs are little scenes, different angles, of the feelings that come around something ending.
