Five times World and three-time Olympic gold medalist Jamaican sprinter, the Honorable Usain St. Leo Bolt, known to the world as Usain Bolt is regarded to be the number one attraction of the upcoming London Olympics. As Olympic fever hits UK, the world’s fastest man and the greatest sprinter in history, also rated as the 4th most marketable athlete in the world by Sportspro, Usain Bolt was also set to spark a bidding war, for which he became successful. As a piece of sporting history, a signed pair of running spikes from Usain Bolt got sold for $39,000 last night at a live online charity auction hosted by the University of Birmingham. After this charity auction, this particular pair of running spikes eventually becomes one of the world's most expensive shoes.
Reportedly, the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus has been the training base for the Jamaican track and Olympic field team, which includes triple Olympic Champion and arguably the most naturally gifted athlete the world has ever seen, Usain Bolt.
The charity auction also featured a Jamaican team running vest duly signed by the members of the Jamaican team, which got sold for $6,530. And, in the international Olympics spirit, all proceeds from the sale will support a life-changing opportunity for a Jamaican student to study at the University of Birmingham. This charity effort will help further develop the long-term links between Jamaican community and the University.
However, the handsome price achieved for the Bolt’s running spikes smashed the $3,110 paid earlier for a pair of sprinter’s running shoes, which he donated to footballer Didier Drogba’s foundation.
Speaking more about this Olympic champ, Usain Bolt became the first man in Olympic history to win both the 100m and 200m races in world record times and then as part of the 4x100 team. Personally, Bolt expresses a love for dancing and his character is frequently described as relaxed and little laid-back.
